House candidate Lloyd Scher has been a leader not only locally and in the state; but has been recognized nationally for his work concerning Senior Issues. He served as national president of the National Association of Counties Aging Commission. In that capacity he worked with organizations across the nation to develop plans for seniors. Through his efforts he helped established an emergency program to obtain critical medical information on seniors so that in case of a natural disaster their medical and family information was readily available.

As president of the senior's program Commissioner Scher worked with several senior organizations and addressed the following issues: Scher was appointed to do a new study about senior issues for Mecklenburg County. He presented his report to the County Commission in 1998, and part of the report has led to an improvement in public transportation for seniors.
